Union member teacher Mehtap Yörük starts selling rice on the street after government fires her for being a dissident

Teacher Mehtap Yörük was fired by the Turkish government for wanting peace, opposing illegal Turkish military operations against its own citizens and simply not agreeing with the dictator president Erdoğan.  She was one of more than 330 teacher or academician fired with a government decree which cannot even be challenged in court or appealed.  The president declared martial law and prevented all appeals to his decrees after a very suspicious so-called coup attempt.  Many European countries, even NATO have voiced their suspicion that the Turkish government may have been behind the coup attempt to impose the martial law that the president needs to grab the entire governmental powers in his own hands.  The number of workers fired with government decrees have reached more than 120,000.  All positions vacated by the fired workers are being filled with government loyalists, qualified or not.

Being left without a job, teacher Mehtap Yörük decided to sell home-made rice on the street to get by in the South East city of Diyarbakır.  She is also an active member of the education workers’ union Eğitim Sen.
